Correspondence between J H Corner and Sir Lawrence Bragg at The Royal Institution in London

The Royal Institution of Great Britain

The National Archive Records contain references to letters sent by J H Corner to The Royal Institution.

Some boys had attended a lecture in 1969 where it was stated that air could be weighed. The boys protested that air couldn't be weighed in air, and Corner wrote to Sir Laurence for clarification.

Here are the references to that exchange.

Thanks Bragg for the excellent lecture he gave to his pupils. Asks Bragg is he could settle the enclosed question they raised.

Thanks for letter of 20 March. Corner's pupils were right to protest about experiment [to prove air had weight]; comments on the experiment. The demonstrator should have made it quite clear what he claimed to be doing. Delighted the boys liked his talk. He greatly enjoys talking to young people.

Thanks Bragg for helpful letter of 26 March. Will tell his pupil of Bragg's approval. Hopes the excellent lectures to schools will continue, "because if you get as much enjoyment out of them as the boys do, it must be a most worthwhile educational venture".
